Tuition & Fee Exemptions
In certain situations, students can be exempt from tuition and/or certain fees and charges. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate the action of applying for an exemption and providing satisfactory documentation that all conditions required for the exemption have been met.
Students receiving an exemption must notify Financial Aid as soon as possible by submitting an External Resource Form for the appropriate aid year.

Civil Service or Professionally Affiliated
- Children of Disabled/Deceased Texas Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers
- Surviving Spouse and Dependent Children of Certain Deceased Public Servants
- Firefighters Enrolled in Fire Science Courses
- Peace Officers Enrolled in Certain Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement Courses
- Nursing Preceptors and Dependents
Deaf or Blind
Foster Care and Adoption
International
Prisoner of War
Valedictorian
Veteran & Military Affiliated
- Hazlewood Act (Texas ex-servicemen and Children of Texas Veterans)
- Children of a Deployed Member of the Armed Forces in Combat Operations Outside the U.S.
- Students Sounding “Taps” at a Veteran’s Funeral
- State Military Forces Receiving Tuition Assistance from the Adjutant General
