Request for Unsubsidized Direct Loan Due to No Parental Support
Students who are considered dependent on their 2024-2025 FAFSA and do not have a personal or unusual circumstance, but whose parents are unwilling to provide their information for them to complete the application can answer “Yes” to the question “Apply for a Direct Unsubsidized Loan Only.”
Students who answer “Yes” to this question will have a rejected status for their FAFSA. These students are not eligible for Pell Grant, State and Institutional Grants or Scholarships, Federal Work Study, or a Federal Direct Subsidized Loan.
If this is your current situation, please submit the Request for Unsubsidized Direct Loan Due to No Parental Support Form to be considered for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Please note the amount of the loan may not be enough to cover educational expenses and you may need to explore private loans or outside resources to cover educational expenses.
If you have an unusual circumstance and cannot provide parent information, the Financial Aid & Scholarships office can review your circumstance to change your FAFSA status from dependent to independent. Please review our dependency override webpage for more information on what’s an unusual circumstance and your next steps to be considered.
If you answered this question incorrectly and can provide parent information on your FAFSA, please log back into your account on studentaid.gov using your FSA ID and select your FAFSA submission from the “My Activity” section of your account Dashboard. You will need to correct the “Apply for a Direct Unsubsidized Loan Only” question and add parental information and signature. Please note corrections cannot be made until mid-April per the Department of Education.
