Housing & Meal Plan Payments
Where you choose to live while attending UTSA impacts your UTSA cost of attendance (COA), which then impacts your Financial Aid offers. Housing could be either a direct cost or indirect cost.
Confirm Housing Intent
If the housing arrangement on your financial aid offer differs from where you will actually be living (on campus, off campus, or at home), you must notify us by completing an online Housing Arrangement Confirmation form. Please note a change in housing arrangements will change your cost of attendance, and your financial aid offer may be changed or adjusted if necessary. Please allow 7-10 business days for the housing change to be processed.

Housing-Related Direct Costs
Cost of attendance is broken down by direct cost and indirect cost. Direct costs are expenses that will be billed directly to your UTSA bill, such as tuition, fees, on-campus housing and meal plans. Charges that appear on your bill are covered by financial aid, if you’ve accepted enough in financial aid to cover expenses.
UTSA Meal Plan
Meal plan charges automatically appear on your student billing statement. Since it appears on your billing statement, financial aid will pay meal plan charges after tuition and fees if there is enough in financial aid to cover the charges.
Living at UTSA On-Campus Housing
If you live at a UTSA-owned and managed residence (Alvarez Hall, Chaparral Village, Chisholm Hall, Guadalupe Hall and Laurel Village), your housing charges will automatically appear on your student billing statement on your myUTSA Account approximately a month prior to the start of the semester. Since it appears on your billing statement, financial aid will pay rent charges after tuition and fees if there is enough financial aid to cover the charges.
Living at University Oaks
If you live at University Oaks (managed by Campus Living Villages) your housing charges do not automatically appear on your student billing statement on your myUTSA Account. This means if you have financial aid in excess of your tuition and fees and are issued a refund, you will be responsible for using your refund to pay your rent directly to University Oaks. If you have financial aid in excess of your tuition and fee bill, you may charge rent (up to the amount of financial aid available) to your tuition and fee bill by contacting fiscalservices@utsa.edu.
Housing-Related Indirect Cost
Indirect costs are expenses that you pay to someone else, not UTSA. These costs are still a part of your expenses in pursuing your degree so they factor into your overall cost of attendance. This means if you have financial aid in excess after your UTSA bill is paid for, you are issued a refund, which you can then use to pay your indirect costs, such as rent.
Living Off Campus
If you live off campus, your housing charges do not automatically appear on your student billing statement on your myUTSA Account. This means if you have financial aid in excess of your tuition and fees and are issued a refund, you will be responsible for using your refund to pay your rent directly to your landlord.
