UTSA’s Top Scholars program is the first of its kind in San Antonio to offer a merit-based scholarship combined with personalized experiences in academics, leadership, and community service. We are recruiting high caliber students from San Antonio and throughout Texas to be part of this exciting program.

Our Top Scholars enjoy intellectual camaraderie, establishing close and lasting friendships with other students and professional relationships with faculty. Top Scholars are encouraged to gain a broad perspective through service experiences that merge their academic interests with community issues.

The UTSA Top Scholar program is a four-year enhanced experience and scholarship covering tuition, fees, room and board. First-time freshmen who are in the top 5% of their high school class, have a 1400 SAT/32 ACT and are a Texas Resident are encouraged to apply by December 1.

Summer and Fall applicants who demonstrate leadership potential and financial need may be eligible for the Terry Scholarship. Freshmen must be admitted by Jan 1 and Transfers by April 1 to be considered. Once admitted to the university, the most competitive candidates will be invited to apply. Award Value: $1,000 per year ($500 per semester)

How to Apply

Eligible admitted students will be able to apply for the scholarship on the UTSA Scholarship Hub.

Criteria

  • Must transfer to UTSA from one of the five Alamo Colleges
  • Transfer 24-66 semester credits of academic coursework (dual credit and work in progress not included); all coursework must be from Alamo Colleges
  • Apply and be admitted by the application deadline
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all college-level coursework attempted and be in good academic standing
  • Must be enrolled full-time during the fall and spring semesters at UTSA
  • Demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Selection Criteria

There is no application for the Joint Admissions Scholarship. Applicants must be fully admitted to the university by the submission deadline below. Funding for this scholarship is limited, so awards are offered first-come, first served, based on student eligibility and the earliest date of admission to the university, until funding is used up and no longer available.

Incoming transfers who are members of Phi Theta Kappa, have a 3.0 GPA and are Texas residents, can apply for the UTSA Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. Funding for this scholarship is limited, so awards are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted. Students are awarded for four consecutive semesters, not including summer as long as renewal criteria is met.

Criteria

  • Be a member of Phi Theta Kappa and submit proof of membership via the UTSA Scholarship Hub before the deadline
  • Must be an incoming first-time transfer student and a Texas Resident
  • Apply and be admitted by the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application deadline
  • Have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or higher on all college-level coursework attempted and be in good academic standing
  • Must be enrolled full-time during the Fall and Spring semesters at UTSA
  • Have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file; however, financial need is not a criterion

Renewal Criteria

Automatic renewal upon completion of the following:

  • Must enroll full-time each semester in at least 12 hours for the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Must earn a 3.0 grade point average or higher each semester.

How to Apply

The University of Texas at San Antonio is pleased to offer prospective international students the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship.

Beginning in fall 2020, UTSA will offer two annual, renewable scholarships that cover 50% tuition to selected international undergraduate students dedicated to advancing intercultural learning and understanding at UTSA.

Criteria

The #YAWH scholarship is open to applicants who meet the criteria listed below.

  • First-year international applicants of any major.International applicants are individuals who hold citizenship in a country outside the U.S. and who don’t also possess U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Graduation from or attendanceat a secondary school outside the U.S.
  • Demonstrated interest and initiative in promoting intercultural learning and exchange (as evidenced in the essay).
  • Applicants must have applied and be admitted to UTSA for the fall 2020 semester.
  • Completion of a scholarship application and a 500-1000 word essay describing their aspirations to conduct projects, research, employment or other experiences that will advance intercultural learning.

Renewal criteria

All continuing #YAWH Scholarship recipients must successfully complete a minimum of 24 UTSA credit hours by the end of each academic year and have a minimum of a 2.5 UTSA GPA to have the full renewal of their scholarship.

Students must be continuously enrolled at UTSA to have their scholarship renewed for the next academic year. Any breaks in a student’s enrollment without an approved deferment on file with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office will result in the loss of their scholarship.
